To evaluate the antihypertensive effect of doxazosin, 110 patients with essential hy#-rtention were studied. Among them. 80 patients were evaluated for the study and the results are as follows;
1) The reduction of blood pressure from baseline after 12 weeks therapy of doxazo-in was 23.8mmHg systolic and 16.2mmHg diastolic blood pressure.
2) The efficacy of doxazosin therapy was successful in 90% and failed in 10%, In 67 patients with mild to moderate hypertention. 88.6% of patients blood pressure was n.rmaliz ed.
3) The frequent doses of doxazosin were 2-4mg and most of all patients had no significant side effects clinically and laboratory test but 2 patients discontinued treatment due to side effects.
This results suggested that doxazosin could be used as monotherapy in patients wi lh mild to moderate hypertention.
